How Our Billing System Works
Shopify Recurring Billing
We use Shopify's native recurring billing system, which means:
- Charges appear directly on your Shopify bill
- Automatic billing every 30 days
- Secure payment processing through Shopify
- No separate payment method required
- Transparent billing in your Shopify admin
GraphQL-Based Subscription Management
Our app uses Shopify's modern GraphQL API for subscription management:
- AppSubscriptionCreate: Creates new Pro Plan subscriptions
- AppSubscriptionCancel: Handles downgrades and cancellations
- Prorated Billing: Automatic proration when canceling mid-cycle
- Database Persistence: All subscription data is stored securely
Upgrade Process
How to Upgrade to Pro
- Navigate to Pricing: Go to the Pricing page in the app
- Click "Upgrade to Pro": Select the Pro Plan option
- Confirm Subscription: You'll be redirected to Shopify's confirmation page
- Approve Charge: Review and approve the recurring charge
- Instant Activation: Pro features are activated immediately after approval
What Happens During Upgrade:
- Subscription record is created in our database with status "pending"
- Shopify generates a secure confirmation URL
- After approval, subscription status updates to "active"
- Your store settings are updated to enable Pro features
- All Pro features become immediately available
Downgrade Process
How to Downgrade to Free
- Go to Pricing Page: Access the Pricing section in the app
- Click "Cancel Subscription": Select the downgrade option
- Confirm Cancellation: Confirm you want to cancel the Pro Plan
- Automatic Processing: Subscription is canceled with proration
- Immediate Downgrade: Account reverts to Free Plan features
What Happens During Downgrade:
- Shopify's AppSubscriptionCancel mutation is called with proration enabled
- Subscription status is updated to "cancelled" in our database
- Your store's
is_pro flag is set to false - Review display setting reverts to "specific products only"
- Automated email features are disabled
- Your existing reviews and data are preserved
- You receive a prorated refund for unused days
⚠️ Note: When downgrading, scheduled review request emails will no longer be sent, but all your existing reviews, ratings, and Q&A data remain intact.
Proration Policy
We believe in fair billing. When you cancel your Pro Plan subscription:
- You receive a prorated refund for unused days
- Calculation is handled automatically by Shopify
- Refund appears as a credit on your next Shopify bill
- No hidden fees or cancellation charges
Example Proration Calculation:
If you cancel after 15 days of a 30-day billing cycle, you'll receive a refund for the remaining 15 days. For a $15/month plan, that's approximately $14.50 back.
Promotional Codes
We occasionally offer promotional codes for extended Pro Plan access:
- Promo codes can be applied on the Pricing page
- Codes grant free Pro Plan access for a specified duration
- Must be activated by admin before use
- Automatic expiration after the promotional period
- No credit card required during promo period
Subscription Data Management
All subscription data is securely stored in our MySQL database:
- Subscription Records: charge_id, status, price, dates
- Store Settings: is_pro flag, feature access
- Audit Trail: created_at and updated_at timestamps
- Shopify Sync: Real-time synchronization with Shopify billing
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I upgrade and downgrade multiple times?
Yes! You can upgrade and downgrade as many times as you need. Each change is prorated fairly.
What happens to my data when I downgrade?
All your reviews, ratings, Q&A, and settings are preserved. You simply lose access to Pro features like automated emails.
Is there a free trial?
The Free Plan is available indefinitely. For Pro Plan trials, contact our support team for promotional codes.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Simply go to the Pricing page in the app and click "Cancel Subscription". You'll receive a prorated refund automatically.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, cancellations are automatically prorated. If you cancel within the first 7 days, contact support for a full refund.
